Shampooing has a place on heavily greased commercial carpet, but it can leave residue that attracts dirt faster. Dry or low-moisture cleaning is for situations where downtime is not an option, like a rented unit near the media district that has a tenant moving in the same day, or a wool Karastan or Masland piece that should not stay wet.

How often should carpet be cleaned?
Once a year covers a quiet household with no pets. Add kids, dogs, or a lot of foot traffic and you are looking at every six to nine months. Do you move the furniture?
Yes, we move sofas, chairs, coffee tables, and light pieces, then set them back on blocks or pads until the carpet dries. Are there spots you can remove and spots that stay for good?
Food, drink, mud, grease, pet accidents, and general traffic soil usually come out. Things that dye the fiber itself are a different story: bleach, benzoyl peroxide from acne products, some plant fertilizers, mustard, and older red dye spills often leave permanent color change. Is any of this a problem for kids or pets?
No. The products we use are chosen to rinse out, and hot-water extraction pulls the solution back up along with the soil. Keep pets and small children out of the room while equipment is running, mostly because of hoses and cords. Once the carpet is dry, the room is back to normal use. Can you clean upholstery, area rugs, and tile too?
We do all three. Sofas, sectionals, dining chairs, and mattresses get cleaned in place with upholstery tools and controlled moisture. Wool and silk area rugs are handled with gentler methods and slower drying, since the older Spanish and Mediterranean bungalows around here often have good rugs over hardwood. Tile and grout is a separate process with high-pressure rinse, and it is worth bundling with carpet on the same visit to save a trip.
