My wall-to-wall has been down for years. Is it worth cleaning or should I just replace it?

Usually worth cleaning first, and we'll tell you honestly which one you're looking at before we start. A lot of Westmont homes have carpet that's been in place through several tenancies, so what looks like permanent dirt is often deep-set traffic soil that hot water extraction pulls out. What we can't reverse is pile that's been crushed flat down the hallway or worn to backing at doorways and turns. If the fiber is matted but intact, cleaning brings back a lot. Why is there a dark line along the baseboards and under the doors in my bungalow?

Older raised-foundation bungalows with gaps around the perimeter show it worst. It takes separate edge treatment with a dedicated solution and agitation, not just a pass with the wand. It often lightens a great deal but doesn't always come out completely, since the particles are fine and have been embedded a long time.

How long will the carpet take to dry here?

Plan on longer than you'd get inland. Westmont sits close enough to the coast that indoor humidity stays moderate year-round, so drying is slower than in the Valley, and older stucco houses and duplexes with limited cross-ventilation slow it further. We control that by extracting thoroughly rather than over-wetting, and we'll ask you to open windows and run fans or the AC. Can you get out pet odor that seems to come from under the floor?

Sometimes, and we'll be straight with you about the limits. With pets that have been in the house a long time, urine can pass through the carpet and pad into the subfloor, and in the older raised-foundation homes here that odor keeps migrating back up through the boards no matter how well the surface is cleaned. Surface treatment handles light or recent accidents. Heavier saturation needs the pad pulled and the subfloor sealed in those spots. We'll check the affected areas first and tell you which category you're in before quoting.
