My bedrooms still have the original carpet from the postwar tract, but the living room was tiled years ago. Is it worth cleaning carpet that old?

Usually yes, as long as the backing is intact and the pile isn't worn down to the weave in the walkways. How long will the carpet stay wet, and can I still get in and out of the house?

Valley summers work in your favor here. The dry heat means carpet typically dries much faster than it would in a coastal city, often within a few hours with airflow and windows cracked. Winter and damp mornings run longer. You can walk on it right away in clean shoes or with covers, though we ask you to stay off it in socks until it's dry.
