Our house is a 1950s slab tract home and the hallway carpet still smells like the dog after cleaning. Can that be fixed?

Usually, yes, but it takes more than a surface clean. On slab construction there's no subfloor to absorb anything, so urine runs through the carpet and pad and sits on the concrete, sometimes spreading well past the visible spot. If we only clean the face fibers the odor comes back as soon as the room warms up. The fix is a subsurface flush: saturating the affected area with an odor-treating solution and extracting it, sometimes with the pad lifted so the slab itself gets treated. During the walkthrough we'll tell you whether flushing will handle it or whether the pad in that section is past saving.

How long will the carpet stay wet in a Pico Rivera home?

Not long, generally. The dry inland air on this side of the county works in your favor, and most homes here are single-story with carpet limited to bedrooms and hallways, so there's less total wet square footage than in a two-story house with carpet throughout. We use strong extraction, so we're removing most of the moisture on the spot, and we'll set air movers in the bedrooms if you want it faster. Deep urine flushes are the exception. Those go in wetter by design and need more drying time, and we'll say so before we start.

Why does the carpet look dingy again so quickly even though nobody wears shoes inside?

That gray, flat look in traffic lanes is dust abrading the fiber. Regular hot water extraction pulls it out and restores some of the loft. If your bedrooms still have the original wall-to-wall from when the house was built, expect some permanent wear in the doorways and along the hall that no cleaning will reverse.
